Friday 5

Sorry for the delay, I am getting back in the loop.

Courtesy of Marvin:

I don't usually remember my sleeping dreams, but sometimes I do. I have a handful stored away in my mind, dreams that for one reason or another have stayed with me over the years from childhood on through today. What are your five most notable dreams; when and where did they happen; and what do they mean to you?

I also almost never remember my dreams. I can remember snippets of a few, and I happen to remember part of one that I had last night, but I may not have five, so please forgive...

1. a dream from childhood (maybe 9 or 10 yrs old)- I am playing hide and seek with a group of friends in an enormous house that feels like mine, but isn't. I run into a small bathroom and when I turn around there is no longer a door. I sit down and wait.

2. a dream in college (age 20) - While running down a flight of stairs in Parlin (a UT English dept building where I had many classes) I stop suddenly, turn to look behind me and get shot in the forehead. I barely react, grin slightly and then begin to advance methodically on my unseen attacker, though I never see who it is.

3. a dream from adulthood (maybe 22 or so) I parachute, or fall, or I am pushed, out of a plane and into a river. I might be a man, I can't quite remember now. I hit the surface of the water soundly and them begin to sink, then a pack falls in the water- it contains all kinds of surgical equipment that - rather than slowing down, seems to speed up as it slices through the water and then through my clothes and skin. The sounds are muffled by the water and the whole scene looks like it has come out of a 50's monster movie. I am watching my own monstrous origin story. I reach the bottom. It becomes clear that I will not be allowed to die, so I begin to swim to the shore.

4. a dream from parenting (age 26) - I am more than 8 months pregnant with Gavin. I dream that I go to the hospital, am delivered of a baby, come home, and while I am nursing and holding my new son, I am still 8 months pregnant and expecting a child any day. This is the only dream to have left me in a cold sweat when I awoke.

5. a dream from last night (age 30) - I invite a large construction-worker looking man with curly blonde hair to come in for a cup of coffee. He looks around my house and asks about what all I have done to it. I start detailing the projects, experiments, errors, and succeses. He looks around with reserved approval, which is about the limit of praise I can take before I begin to suspect someone's sincerity, and then, with some humor he berates me for building a wall with no electrical outlet, at which I foolishly say that I have the wiring for it waiting in the attic, and then groan as I realize he is going to put us to work getting it done. It's the most satisfying dream I have had and remembered in some time.

Victory!

One must celebrate the little victories, and so I am pleased to share with you the creation of the Friday Five Topic Archive. It is a list of the (abbreviated) topics that have been used so far. It includes the date, the name of the person who suggested the topic (except for one or two that I have to go back and look up) and the short version of the topic (in the interest of space and readability, I have not included explanations or quotations unless I couldn't extract them from the topic, though I may put up links to them from the archive page at some point if there is much outrage.)

Love to you all and open to suggestions.

Happy New Year!

you are lightskyblue
#87CEFA

Your dominant hues are cyan and blue. You like people and enjoy making friends. You're conservative and like to make sure things make sense before you step into them, especially in relationships. You are curious but respected for your opinions by people who you sometimes wouldn't even suspect.

Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.
